Introduction

Dhaka International University Faculty of Law is one of the preeminent centers of legal education in Bangladesh. Founded by prominent jurist, humanist and former chairman of Department of Law, University of Dhaka Late Alhaj Professor Dr. A B M Mafizul Islam Patwari, this faculty is the first legal education provider among all private universities in Bangladesh. The faculty of law founded in 1995 as one of the leading research and teaching law school with 4 years Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) (Hons), Master of Laws (LL.M.) (1 & 2 Years) and Master of Human Rights Laws (MHRL) (2 Years) programmes. DIU Faculty of Law offers students and alumni resources supporting both public and private careers. Mission

The department of law prepares students to become excellent human resource with a high degree of professional skills and a special sensitivity to ethical and moral concerns. We serve society locally, nationally and internationally by providing a collaborative environment in which to learn, think, and communicate about law, policy and justice. Our teaching method is designed to teach students about the law and to develop their skills necessary to use that knowledge in practice. Our mission also includes:

  • Producing skilled law graduates
  • Prepare the students to become professional in effective communication, course of professional practices, teamwork and leadership skill.
  • Espousing the virtues of truth, integrity, honesty, tolerance, professionalism, teamwork and meritocracy.

Message from Department Head

As the Chairperson, I am both honoured and privileged to lead such an outstanding scholarly Law Department of the country. As a first Law Department among the private universities, we have educated successive generations of outstanding lawyers, judges and leaders from public and private sectors. Our alumni are more than a network, though, it is truly a family. So, on a personal note, I am immensely grateful for the ongoing generosity of our alumni and friends, parents, students, faculty and staff who share our vision for excellence. All levels of support are welcome and appreciated, and make possible student scholarships, our ability to attract and retain exemplary faculty, and the myriad innovative programs that make DIU a leader in legal education in Bangladesh. Duration of Study : The Law Faculty of DIU offers LL.B. (Hon's) degree of twelve semesters spanning over four years. Each academic year (January to December) is divided into three semesters (January to April, May to August and September to December). .

Admission Requirement: A prospective law student must have minimum second division/CGPA 2.5 in both S.S.C and H.S.C or equivalent '0' (5 subjects) and 'A' (2 subjects) Level or successful completion of twelve years of studies at high school level from abroad or equivalent. He/She will have to appear at an admission test.

Requirement of Degree: A student for the degree of LL.B (Hon's) must earn 126 credits.
